When the forecast for Minneapolis was above 30° for Saturday, I knew I wanted to be outside all day preferably on a long walk. The best way to convince Scott of this in the winter is the promise of a couple of brewery stops. We both agree this should be considered pre-season training for the 2015 walking season.
I use the MapMyWalk app on my phone to track our walks. I typically only pause it when we're at a restroom or fuel stop. Our pace factors in a lot of traffic stops and in this case our pace when walking on snow/slush covered sidewalks.
We chose Fair State Brewing Cooperative and Insight Brewing Company as our planned destinations but our first stop was for lunch at Sen Yai Sen Lek.
I had mittens on for most of the walk so didn't stop to take many photos. I took enough for you to get an idea of what our day was like. The sky was blue and the sun was out for the first 10 minutes of our walk. The rest of the day was overcast and kind of gloomy but I guess that's what helps keep the temps warmer (at least that's what I have to tell myself in the winter).
At Fair State Brewing Cooperative, Scott and I sampled the India Pale Ale, Pils (German-Style Pilsner), and Magic Missile (American strong ale). With Thai food and beer in our bellies, we were ready for the 3 mile walk to Insight Brewing Company's tap room.
I chose a Lamb & Flag English Bitter and Scott had Gravity Well imperial stout which was his favorite of the day. Insight's tap room is large and I like that they are featuring local artists. We'll definitely be back. Oh and next time I'll try to get friends, Ben and Erin to meet us since they live so close! Oh and with better planning, we would have definitely gone to NorthGate Brewing which is 1 mile northwest of Insight.
The stone markers caught our eye at Talmage Crossing Garden. At first we thought it was a pet cemetery but it is a neighborhood initiative to reclaim a stretch of land along the railroad tracks.
