Normally Scott and I are too tired to do anything on Friday night and reserve weekend mornings and afternoons for our long-distance walks. Since rain was in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, we decided to make the most of the beautiful evening and hit the Grand Rounds trail for a long walk. We started after 7 PM and walked along the western side of Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun, all around Lake of the Isles and then back along Lake Calhoun until we called it quits at 36th Street so we could catch a bus home.
Lake Harriet was busy because Music and Movies in the Park has started. It is a goal of mine to go to at least one performance this summer. We considered a stop at Tin Fish for a treat but the lines were too long so we took a detour into Uptown for a Lunds stop. By the time we were back on the trail, the sun was setting which was gorgeous. I pretty much stopped taking photos after a few more snaps.
I once again failed to navigate the trails from Lake of the Isles to Cedar Lake so we ended up just going around Lake of the Isles with a bit of a detour into the Kenwood neighborhood. We ended up running into a couple of friends so that made up for getting sidetracked. It was fun to experience the energy around Lake Calhoun at night - fewer kids and more young adults on their way to parties or bars. When we reached 36th Street, we decided it was time to end our walk. We took the bus to a stop about 4 blocks from our house so the total mileage was probably 10 miles. It felt great to take full advantage of the beautiful day. My fitbit total for the day was 18.54 miles!
