After reading about Peace Coffee's seasonal offering of es Alpukat on Mpls/StPaul magazine's Land of 10,000 Crazy Iced Coffees, I was motivated to hit the trails early on Saturday morning to try it for myself.
This is what Dara wrote:
Everyone’s crazy about avocados right now, with their good-fats and their ultra-creamy texture. But in coffee? Yes, blended up with espresso and sweetened condensed milk at Peace Coffee’s Wonderland Park home base, you can call this a full on breakfast.

I left the house at 5:38 AM (MapMyWalk tells me so) knowing that it would take me more than 1.5 hours so I'd arrive close to when they open on Saturdays.
The morning was cool and quiet - perfect for walking alone. I love walking along the Minnehaha Creek and this morning was particularly enjoyable since all the homes and gardens look their best this time of year.
I arrived at Peace Coffee Shop a little after 7 AM and ordered the Es Alpukat. They hadn't made a batch yet so I waited about five minutes while they whipped one up. I love the bright, cheery colors and the creative use of old materials throughout the shop. During my Minneapolis 81 days, I met with Peace Coffee's director of marketing, Melanee Meegan to learn more about the name Wonderland Park, an amusement park in the Longfellow neighborhood from 1905 until 1911.
I had no idea what to expect and had ordered my drink to go thinking I'd enjoy it on my journey home. Turns out that I should have just stayed at the coffee shop because definitely a sipping drink and one best served in a glass. An extremely filling coffee drink, the 5 oz drink is like breakfast in a cup. I won't try to describe it further because I don't yet have the language to deconstruct my coffee experiences but Peace Coffee Shop is the place to go to learn!
I will enjoy an es Alpukat again this summer while it is still on the menu. I look forward to introducing my cousin, Kristina to this wonderland!
