Open since April 2011, Bread & Pickle is a food stand at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. In addition to tasty coffee beverages, it also serves Minnesota craft beer on tap and food (which I've never ordered). This morning was perfect outside so I celebrated by walking one of my favorite routes to get my coffee.

The route

I love this stretch of trail in the early morning as sun streams through the trees
A huge tree or is it two trees that have grown together?
It's my lucky day! An albino squirrel.

  1. Once I arrive to Lake Harriet's South Beach, I take a right and go along the eastern shoreline. Sometimes I walk on the sidewalk near the beautiful homes instead of the trail. It's also easy to take a detour to the Lyndale Park Gardens: Rose Garden, Annual/Perennial Garden, Peace (Rock) Garden, and the Perennial Trial Garden & Hummingbird/Butterfly Garden.
I had a great walk around the lake with a fun mix of people joining me in the early hours. It's always fun to people watch - couples walking, running groups, dog walkers, roller-bladers, cyclists, dogs swimming, geese sleeping, ducks quacking, and people fishing.

Crack press: cold press coffee and sweetened condensed milk (usually comes with milk chocolate but no thanks)
The Crack Press is $5.00 and a rare treat for me. It is cold pressed coffee, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate over ice. I have them hold the chocolate because I'm not crazy and know where to draw the line. The first time I had this drink, I compared it to Vietnamese iced coffee at Pham's Deli. It doesn't quite hit that bar for coffee drinks that involve sweetened condensed milk but it is definitely a tasty treat. It lasted me all the way home as I like these drinks to last as long as possible.

Here's the rest of my walk in photos:

I love this sign. It looks great at night.
