Even though the chance of rain was quite high, the morning and early afternoon were lovely so we decided to proceed with our plan to walk the Open Streets route. I knew we wouldn't make it if we started at our home so we drove to Saint Anthony Main for our starting point.
The Open Streets event was great and afterwards we ate lunch at Victory 44, took a bus downtown, walked across the Stone Arch Bridge and barely missed torrential rains by ducking into Aster Cafe for a drink and appetizers.

Normally Scott and I are too tired to do anything on Friday night and reserve weekend mornings and afternoons for our long-distance walks. Since rain was in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, we decided to make the most of the beautiful evening and hit the Grand Rounds trail for a long walk. We started after 7 PM and walked along the western side of Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun, all around Lake of the Isles and then back along Lake Calhoun until we called it quits at 36th Street so we could catch a bus home.

I've always wanted to walk to work but have never had the right set of circumstances to make it happen. A number of factors converged on Friday to give me the confidence to give it a go. This is not a particularly risky venture since I always know I can hop on a bus to get to my destination. Since I had a scheduled meeting with my manager at 8:30 AM, I did need to be more aware of the time than I normally am on long walks with Scott.
We crossed the river! That phrase has never meant much to me since I'm a transplant but people here like to play up the faux rivalry between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Scott and I have already walked around a huge chunk of Minneapolis and though I will never tire of exploring all of its nooks and crannies, I do like to change things up.

A favorite spring/summer outing is walking to Sea Salt for Mahi tacos. We took advantage of the beautiful day and headed to Minnehaha Falls late in the morning. I had already put on about 5 miles from a dog walk and a trip to Caribou Coffee at 50th and France. I guess I was determined to get as many steps in as possible (I walked 40,000+ today)!
