Before taking Scott to the airport, we enjoyed brunch at one of our favorite cafes in Minneapolis, Common Roots Cafe at 25th and Lyndale. I like to pretend this is in our neighborhood because in warmer months we have been known to walk there but who am I kidding, it is not at all in my neighborhood. That said, the vibe at Common Roots is like everyone is part of a community. It is part restaurant, part coffee shop, part study hall, part bar. It is big enough to accomodate students, bloggers and internet surfers with the faster turnover tables of diners. The staff are friendly but not invasive so you can enjoy a leisurely meal without feeling like you are in the way.
Oh, I got off track - back to the sweet and savory. One of the many things I love about having brunch with Scott is that he generally chooses from the sweet side of the menu while I gravitate towards the savory. Since our mothers taught us to share, we both win! Let me tell you, these lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries and lemon curd are TO DIE FOR. I still don't know how I was able to limit myself to one bite (oh yeah, because I fell in love with their salad sampler).
I promise this is not a paid advertisement by Common Roots. I say this in all sincerity - I have never been disappointed with them. I have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner there; have introduced many friends to them and am genuinely supportive of all they do. I've had a frittata, gingerbread pancakes, apple zuchinni latkes and many other nummy meals I didn't capture with my camera. And with that, I dare you not to go based on that recommendation!
I attempted my first 365 photo project in 2011. I made it to Day 246.
