Scott and I spent part of our Saturday morning at the Midtown Farmers Market. They had a hula hooping contest for little kids which turned out to be a great photo opportunity. This young hula hooper was rocking it during the practice round. Unfortunately, her hoop touched the ground pretty early on in the actual competition. After trying to shrug it off, her emotions took over and she covered her face as she cried. It took quite a while for her mom and the leader of the contest to console her. It was pretty heartbreaking to watch.

Before heading home from work, I stopped by Elliot Park Neighborhood Association to meet with David Fields and Lynne Regnier. They work tirelessly to promote Elliot Park as a livable community. Lynn mentioned that Teen Challenge was having an event in the Franklin Steele Square park. I didn't get to see that park on my tour so I headed over and caught this fun scene!

Today I worked from home and when I saw my friend Lisa on g-chat, I suggested that we get together for lunch. It worked in her schedule and we decided to go to Tilia in Linden Hills since neither of us had been there. It was a hit! Mirah had a lunchpail of toys keeping her entertained and Lisa ordered her a snack of honey butter crackers of the cute kids menu. Lisa and I both had the Fish Taco Torta. It was amazing. I'll definitely return often. It was a great break in a regular working from home day. I just love my buddy Mirah!

When I got off the bus at 56th & Oliver, a bright pink rake caught my attention! It was a neighbor and his daughter doing chores together. I always think it is cute when kids imitate their parents as they learn new things. She was so proud to be helping out.
My neighborhood pal, Rowan, came over to play with Stewie. We went over to the south side of my home where the flowers are flourishing (without my intervention- yes!) and he picked a few daisies for his mom.

I arranged to take photos of Annabel for the Armatage 365 blog with her mom, Brenda. We tried to time it so that we could take photos outside but the rain started up again right when we arrived. Fortunately, Brenda, Eric and Annabel welcomed Scott, Stewie and me into their home. Annabel showed us her toys; a barn, building blocks, dolls and doll strollers and she even shared her hat with Scott. We love talking with Annabel and she loves Stewie.

As part of my Armatage 365 photographer duties, I was invited to capture an end of the year party for 5th graders who graduated from Armatage Montessori. Next year, they will attend Anthony Middle School which is why three of the girls in front have on their new school's t-shirt. This photo certainly has a lot of energy since the arms of many of the kids are blurred due to moving so fast. It was fun being a part of their celebration which included a trampoline and dance music. After the sun went down, they were going to watch a movie being projected on the side of the garage.

I adore this girl. Ruby is the daughter of my friend and former co-worker at the U of M, Lisa. I met them, along with Liz and Vivian, for coffee at Jerabek's New Bohemian in St. Paul, MN.
Ruby and I sat our table by ourselves for several minutes while Lisa and Liz got their coffees. Some kids are hard for me to talk to, but not Ruby. She is the most conversational kid I know. When I asked her if she was done with school for the year, she muttered, "I wish" as sarcastically as an 18 year-old, and then when on to She has 4 days left of fourth grade and told me they have two fun days scheduled so far: "Fit and Fun Day" which involves lots of fun activities like tug of war and "DEAR" (Drop Everything and Read) in which they get to go outside with beach towels and sunglasses and read. She is going to wear that stylin' pair of shades in this picture for that day. This is one of many photos I took of Ruby because she was a good sport in front of the camera. I told her I'd pretend to be a photographer and she could pretend to be a model. Except, I'm the only one pretending in that scenario!

Rowan (Ro-ro), a neighbor kid, loves dogs and anytime he sees Stewie, he asks if he can walk him. I have been feeling uninspired with photography lately so I thought he'd make a great model. This shot captures how much fun they have together. I suspect both will sleep well tonight!

I got off the bus a block earlier than I normally do and so I walked on Morgan Avenue. I stopped to talk to Bridget who was entertaining her dog, Louis; son, Sam; and his friends Amelia and Madeline. They were kind enough to let me take a few photos of them goofing around.
I attempted my first 365 photo project in 2011. I made it to Day 246.
