Walking through the alleys is a great way to discover beautiful flower gardens in my neighborhood. I love hollyhocks (Alcea).

Taken with iPhone outside of Lunds in Richfield. I was not feeling well so didn't want to deal with taking more photos with my DSLR than needed (it was my day for Armatage 365).

A walk through the Minneapolis Rose Garden is a bittersweet experience this year. While there are some magnificent blooms like this one, the plants have been attacked by Japanese Beetles and the survivors are few and far between.

I absolutely love peonies and think they are gorgeous at every stage. This bloom is about to burst and it served as a temporary playground for that ant.

Scott and I take the same path for our dog walk every day. This is Maddy. She greets us with her loud, howling bark and has an incredible vertical jump that has to be seen to be believed. I managed to catch her mid jump and it looks like she's just hanging out watching the world go by. Ahhhh...a dog's life.
Photo of the day contenders
I've been trying to limit my daily post to one photo but the following were serious contenders because of the limited window of opportunity to capture dandelions and lilacs (and husbands posing with lilacs).

When the weather in Minneapolis is in the 60-75 range and low humidity, I try to be outside as much as possible because it is such a rarity. Scott and I hit the sidewalks at 10:00 AM and headed to the Linden Hills neighborhood festival. We met the Director of Art Cars and Art Bikes of Minnesota, talked to a Bakken Museum rep, and watched the toddler bike parade. We then headed west and north and walked through a quiet green space along William Berry Parkway and Scott spotted two deer. It was amazing to be so close to wildlife inside the city. We then walked through the outskirts of Uptown until we reached Lyndale and then we headed north to the Lyn Lake Street Fest. We saw poodles getting their fur sculptured and colored. We then watched a few songs by Koo Koo Kanga Roo. Of course we had no choice but to sing "What's That You Say?" the remainder of the walk. We stopped for lunch at Common Roots where Scott had his famous pancakes and 2 beer breakfast combo and I had a curried chicken pita sandwich. We then walked along 26th Street until 29th Avenue and stopped at Casa de Works Progress so I could pick up posters for Mississippi Megalops – A Floating Chautauqua. It was around 3:00 PM and we had made plans to visit Scott's sister in Brooklyn Park so we hopped on the bus to Lyndale and then walked a few more blocks to transfer to another bus that dropped us off about a mile from our home. Our loop was about 19 miles total of which we walked about 13 miles. Fantastic day!

Scott and I were able to take a vacation from our vacation and so we were able to take a nice leisurely stroll around Minneapolis. After eating at The Lowbrow on 44th and Nicollet, we walked on Pleasant and Pillsbury streets in a loop. I am still in the mode of capturing as many blooms as I can. It is like I am hoarding color and sunshine because I know what it is like to go MONTHS without either. Persist is exactly what we Minnesotans did, as a collective, to get through this past winter. And now, we can complain about the heat and humidity!

I was reminded by @mplsfarmmarket that today was the first Nicollet Mall Farmers Market. I thought it'd be the perfect photo of the day so I marked my calendar and promptly forget to look at the weather forecast. Holy wow, was it cold for a farmers market. I went and took photos of colorful things even though they are definitely not grown in MN. By the time I found the tables were things were made locally (soap, etc), my hands were frozen and I needed to call it a day. I talked with a lovely woman at the flower stand and she was freezing but still had a smile on her face so I bought a bouquet for my cube. I'll be back every Thursday for my fix of people watching and Food Truck food!

After months of looking at bare tree limbs, I am captivated by the changing landscape around me. This spring, I am paying closer attention to the small incremental steps that plant life are making towards being in full bloom. The pods (not sure of correct name!) remind me of caterpillars.

After spending 4.5 hours in the car today, Scott, Stewie and I couldn't wait to take our regular walk. We've been walking the same route for about 7 years and it involves walking down "dog alley" which Scott named because of the high concentration of dogs who tend to hang out in their backyards. Yes, this is creepy. I go along with this stretch of the walk because it happens to be an unusually pretty alley. Today, I enjoyed seeing the yellow flowers. This photo was taken with my newest lens, Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3.
I attempted my first 365 photo project in 2011. I made it to Day 246.
