This final photo of January 2011 is a shout out to my co-worker, Miranda. She suggested that I take photos with the theme outside/inside. It was brilliant and an excuse to try out the collage feature on Picasa. Someday when I have PhotoShop prowess I'll make it extra fancy.
Cutting a pomegranate isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be but it also isn't as easy as most fruits. It's involved enough to warrant many videos on YouTube!
These beauties ended up on a salad. See the January 2011 or Journal set to see the yummy salad for yourself.

Today was little miss Annie's first birthday and I was so happy to be able to celebrate her first year with Erin and Ben and their many friends and family. It was a festive event full of kids around Annie's age. Erin and I share a love of party planning and she did a great job with decorations, food, and entrainment by way of slideshow. Her sister, Liz made these poms by hand and they made a big impact throughout the house. Thank you Erin, Ben and and Annie for the great end to my weekend.

As an experiment, I took Photoshop I: Selections & Transformations from the Continuing Education department at Minneapolis Community & Technical College. I was seriously giddy when I received my textbook (which we didn't use). The class itself was a little odd but I definitely learned a lot and plan on taking more classes.
This was a view from one of the study areas in the Technical Building. I plan on going back to the roof on a nice weather day because I think one could get some good shots of the Basilica.

I love getting my hair cut. Perhaps it's because my hair is so thick and after 4-5 weeks it starts to weigh me down (maybe that's why I get migraines). Going to an Aveda salon over lunch is such a treat - aromotherapy massage, head scrubbed with yummy shampoo and flat ironing my hair all while having fun conversation with Zoe (or sleeping while she does her thing). I took this photo because I am amazed by her scissor skills. She has managed to take this thick head of hair and make it feel whispy! I regret not taking a photo of the massive amount of hair on the floor and I didn't get much length taken off!

This deer/giraffe/camel creature captivated my attention for longer than I care to admit. I took a mid-morning coffee break at Patrick's Bakery in Bachman's. It was so much fun to walk around without my second skin (winter coat) for 15 minutes taking all the photos I wanted. It was hard to choose my photo of the day because I loved so many of them. But, I like this creature and it best represents my day.
See more of my Bachman's outing by viewing my photostream or my January 2011 set.

Working in a Career Center at an online university, this is our version of a career resource library. It is a collection of books owned by a few of the Career Counselors. I have never seen anyone actually "check out" one of these books. But, I am willing to bet that if I were to return to work during the "late shift" I would catch Amy drooling over the Po Bronson book.

Siri and I went on a photo walk over lunch and ended up in the third floor skyway connecting Gaviidae and Niemann Marcus. Siri and I decided we should do monthly photo walks and agreed they will be a bit more fun when we can be outside.

On the counter of Allie's Deli & Catering, I found the largest heap of bananas I've seen outside of a grocery store. If it wasn't so busy I definitely would have chatted up the owner to find out the proportion of bananas sold to bananas baked in their yummy desserts. If you have not had lunch at Allie's in the Rand Tower, you are missing out.

Being Birthday Princess for the day (more like weekend), I called the shots. After getting Scott fueled up on an "incredible sandwich" and two beers at Town Hall Tap Room, we headed over to Lake Nokomis to experience the US Pond Hockey Championships. Ice hockey was not a big sport in NW Iowa so I am not that familiar with it but I enjoyed practicing taking action shots. Even though we stayed for less than a 1/2 hour, it was a lot of fun and I'll likely go back next year.

After spending all day in bed on Friday, I had to get out of the house. On the way to Gigi's Cafe for coffee, I took a pitstop to take photos of motel signs that have always caught my attention. Gigi's was nice but I am sad to say that it is no longer my favorite cafe in Minneapolis. Something just seems different and lacking lately.
After getting adequately caffeinated we headed downtown to walk the skyways since we were both longing for our urban hikes. The skyways are the closest thing we can do since neither of us wanted to be in the zero degree outdoors. We made the best choice of the day when we walked to the Minneapolis Convention Center. America's Got Talent auditions were underway and groups of wannabe stars were rehearsing in all of the hallways. Knowing that many of them would have their dreams broken was too much for this softie to bear so we made our way to Ivy Spa to make appointments.
We had time to kill beforehand so we went to Key's Bar & Grill for brunch. Scott had a farmer's omelette and I had tomato bisque soup and a dinner salad.
Ivy Spa was a great getaway in the middle of our day- Scott enjoyed a massage and I had a manicure and pedicure. We were both happy with our services and would like to go back again.
Pracna on Main was calling Scott's name with their "Surly Saturday" special which of course turned from one free drink to three for Scott and one fancy drink for me plus an appetizer of smoked salmon quesadilla.
After his three craft beers, Scott suggested going to Black Swan next door at St. Anthony Main Theatre. It was intense from the start and I can now genuinely root for Natalie on the night of the Academy Awards. Today was a great start to my Birthday Princess weekend!
I attempted my first 365 photo project in 2011. I made it to Day 246.
