Related: 40x40 List
Dates completed: Monday, May 4; Saturday, August 1; Wednesday, August 5; and Friday, August 7
Seeing a Minnesota Fringe Festival performance was one of the first items I added to my 40x40 list. I have lived in Minneapolis since 2002 and had only been to one Fringe Festival show. That is unacceptable! As the largest non-juried festival in the United States (shows are randomly chosen so everyone has a shot at performing), Minnesota Fringe is definitely worthy of support.
Date of performance: Monday, May 4, 2015
Location: Illusion Theater
To kick things off, I bought tickets to the spring fundraising show "Five Fifths of Dirty Dancing". Here's the description:
Minnesota Fringe is taking on "Dirty Dancing," and we have no idea what's gonna happen (so start practicing those lifts just in case). Join us as we let five local performance groups tear apart and reinterpret this classic film however they want, only to reunite them in an epically unpredictable, one-night-only performance in support of the Minnesota Fringe Festival.
It was a fun night of talented performances and made me excited for the festival itself.

Attending Fringe Festival will be on my must-do list every year. In the future, I'll get a multiple show pass (10 perhaps?) and try to see performances at variety of locations. Though having so many fantastic performances at Rarig was great since it's just a walk across the Washington Avenue Bridge from work.
Bottom line - I want to continue supporting artists as they experiment. This festival is a great way to celebrate experienced and emerging talent.
