Meet the Nivens Family
In 2003, Scott and Janelle had their first date walking around Lake Calhoun, adopted the most adorable Bichon Frise in 2004, and exchanged vows in the beautiful James J. Hill Reference Library on October 8, 2005. Scott, Janelle, and Stewie live in Southwest Minneapolis and can often be found walking together along the Minnehaha Creek.
Janelle is a walking and Minneapolis neighborhood enthusiast with a passion for exploring and researching her environment. Janelle works at the University of Minnesota as a web project manager and content strategist for the Academic Health Center.
As a milestone birthday approaches, she is currently tackling a 40x40 list and having a blast doing so. An obsessed Fitbitter, she is determined to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day no matter the weather conditions. With a goal of staying overnight in all U.S. states and territories as well as Canadian Provinces, Janelle loves travel research and planning and documenting those travels.
Born in South Dakota, raised in Iowa, and educated in Nebraska and Arizona, Janelle is now ready to call Minnesota home for the long haul.
Scott is a research scientist, self-taught computer programmer and talented home brewer.
An alum of the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology (now the College of Science and Engineering), Scott stays connected to campus life by visiting Janelle at work.
He grew up skateboarding and narrowly escaping the authorities with his buddies in and around New Hope, Minnesota. Though he somehow avoided every major motion picture in the '80s, he has an impressive ability to name the title, artist and year produced for that decade's music.
Born on November 19, 2003, Stewie joined our family in April 2005. He's a Bichon Frise and quite possibly the most laid back dog we know. People can't help but smile when they see his fluffy head. Common reactions:
Thanks to twice-a-day dog walks, we've met a lot of neighbor friends as result of Stewie's charming personality. He even has a fan club and is a big part of our neighborhood's annual Puppy Party + Parade!
